Moroso specifically excludes several applications from normal 20412 fitment.

A 4.250-inch-stroke crankshaft is extremely common in performance BBC combinations, including popular 496-cubic-inch builds based on a 454-style bore.
The connecting-rod material matters because aluminum rods generally require more physical clearance than comparable steel rods.
Always verify rotating-assembly clearance during final engine assembly rather than treating a catalog stroke number as an unconditional guarantee.
Why Oil-Pan Clearance Matters on a Stroker BBC
Increasing crankshaft stroke moves the connecting rods and crankshaft counterweights through a larger path inside the crankcase.
That creates potential interference with:
- Oil-pan rails
- Sump transitions
- Windage trays
- Crank scrapers
- Oil-pump pickups
- Dipsticks
Clearance should be checked with the actual rotating assembly being used.
That becomes particularly important with aftermarket rods, where rod-bolt design and overall profile can differ significantly.

Oil pressure is not an area where “that looks about right” should be considered precision engine building.
Offset Pickup Options for Braking
Moroso offers an offset pickup arrangement for the 20412 that positions the pickup closer to the middle of the sump.
The company specifically notes that this configuration can provide more consistent oil pressure under braking.
That’s useful on performance street cars and vehicles that see more aggressive braking than a traditional straight-line drag combination.
Oil moves inside the pan every time the car accelerates, brakes or corners.
The job of a properly engineered oiling system is to make sure the pickup still has a reliable supply while all of that is happening.
Magnetic Drain Plug
The Moroso 20412 incorporates a magnetic drain plug.
A magnetic plug can capture ferrous metallic debris circulating in the oil before that material continues moving through the lubrication system.
During oil changes, inspect the magnet.
A small amount of fine metallic material can appear during engine break-in, but larger particles or a sudden increase in debris deserve investigation.
The drain plug effectively gives you another opportunity to inspect what’s happening inside the engine without removing the oil pan.
If the magnet starts looking like it grew a metallic beard between oil changes, the engine is trying to tell you something.
Black Powder-Coated Steel Construction
Some reseller descriptions identify the Moroso 20412 as clear-zinc-plated steel.
Moroso’s current specification says otherwise.
The current 20412 is a steel oil pan finished in black powder coat.
The powder-coated exterior provides corrosion protection while giving the pan a clean performance appearance that works naturally underneath classic muscle cars and street/strip builds.
This is worth correcting on the ecommerce page because finish is an obvious visual product characteristic and shoppers should receive the current manufacturer specification.
Compatible Moroso Dipstick Options
Moroso lists several dipstick options for the 20412, including:

Oil Level and Oil Pressure Are Different Measurements
A properly calibrated dipstick tells you how much oil is in the pan.
It doesn’t tell you whether the engine has adequate oil pressure.
A BBC can show FULL on the dipstick and still suffer inadequate pressure because of:
- Excessive bearing clearance
- Oil-pump problems
- Incorrect pickup clearance
- Pickup leakage
- Oil aeration
- Excessive oil temperature
- Internal leakage
- Pickup uncovering during vehicle movement
That distinction becomes especially important with modified engines. When preparing a high-output or forced-induction combination, oil pressure belongs alongside compression, leak-down testing and cooling-system health as a basic engine-health check. These components address what happens to oil once the engine is running at speed.
The rotating crankshaft can whip oil into a mist and create windage inside the crankcase. Keeping excess oil away from the rotating assembly can reduce parasitic drag and help return oil to the sump more effectively.
For a mild street engine, the requirements are different from a BBC that spends substantial time at high RPM.
Build the oil-control system around how the engine will actually be used.
Compatible BBC Oil Pan Gasket
Moroso lists its 93153 one-piece steel-reinforced oil-pan gasket as a compatible option for Mark IV BBC applications, including stroker combinations requiring additional clearance.
A quality one-piece gasket can simplify installation compared with traditional multi-piece arrangements, especially when the engine is being assembled outside the vehicle.
Regardless of gasket design, make sure the oil-pan rails are straight and clean before installation.
An expensive performance pan cannot seal against a damaged block rail through determination alone.
