What Can the OBD2 Scanner Do?

Using Torque With the A5L
The AC-4450 is designed to work with compatible diagnostic applications such as Torque.
Once connected, Torque can provide customizable gauges and display available OBD-II parameters directly on the head unit.

Reading a Trouble Code Is Not the Same as Diagnosing It
This is worth saying clearly.
A scanner can tell you what code the ECU stored.
It cannot automatically tell you which part failed.
For example, a sensor-related trouble code can be caused by:

- Poor ground
- Connector problems
- Reference-voltage faults
- Mechanical issues
- ECU problems
Replacing the part named in the code description without testing anything first is how expensive parts cannons get loaded.

7-Inch 1280×720 IPS Touchscreen
The A5L uses a 7-inch 1280×720 IPS display with a wide viewing angle.
That traditional size makes it easier to integrate into older dashboards than oversized floating displays.
For many enthusiast vehicles, a 7-inch Double DIN screen hits a good balance:
Large enough for navigation and gauges.
Small enough that it doesn’t cover the heater controls.
Sometimes restraint is a feature.
Double DIN Installation
The A5L uses a conventional Double DIN chassis.
That makes it suitable for vehicles with a compatible Double DIN opening, although you’ll usually still need vehicle-specific installation components.

Wireless Apple CarPlay
The A5L supports both wireless and wired Apple CarPlay.

For everyday driving, you may spend most of your time using CarPlay even though the radio itself runs Android.
That is one of the advantages of the A5L platform.

Compatible Android phones can provide navigation, messaging, calls and music directly through the touchscreen.

24-Band DSP Equalizer
The A5L includes a built-in DSP with a 24-band EQ and time correction.
That provides substantially more adjustment than the bass and treble controls found on basic factory stereos.

Time correction can help compensate for the driver sitting much closer to the left speakers than the right ones.

As road noise increases with vehicle speed, the stereo can adjust playback volume to compensate.

Built-In Amplifier
ATOTO rates the A5L’s internal amplifier at:

Twenty-four watts RMS per channel is adequate for many factory speakers and efficient aftermarket replacements.
For more demanding speakers or subwoofers, an external amplifier remains the better option.

DriveChat AI Assistant
ATOTO also includes DriveChat support on the A5L.
DriveChat is designed around voice-first interaction so drivers can ask questions or interact with supported features without repeatedly navigating the touchscreen.
ATOTO currently describes DriveChat on the A5L as an AI driving companion, although specific model availability and capabilities can evolve through software updates.
For that reason, I would avoid hard-coding specific third-party AI model version numbers into evergreen product copy.
The head unit hardware is fixed.
Cloud AI services are not.
Phone Mirroring
The A5L also supports compatible wired and wireless phone mirroring.
That can be useful for displaying content that is not available through CarPlay or Android Auto.
As always, video and interactive applications should be used responsibly and primarily when parked.
Just because a screen can display something does not mean you need to watch it while merging onto the freeway.
128GB TF Card Support
ATOTO lists support for external TF-card storage up to 128GB on current A5L configurations.
That gives owners additional space for media and other supported content without consuming the stereo’s 32GB internal storage.
For an Android receiver, expandable storage is particularly useful if you keep music or media locally.
Physical Controls
This configuration includes physical controls in addition to the touchscreen.
That’s a small feature that can make a significant difference while driving.
A touchscreen is great for maps.
A physical button is usually better when you just want to change something immediately without staring at the dashboard.
Touchscreens did not make tactile feedback obsolete.
They merely made us appreciate it more.
HDMI Output
This A5L configuration is also advertised with HDMI-output capability for compatible display setups.
That can be useful in installations where head-unit content needs to be sent to an external monitor.
If HDMI output is an important part of your build, verify the exact adapter and connection requirements for the specific SKU before planning the installation.
OTA Updates
The A5L supports over-the-air software updates.
That matters on a head unit relying on:
