Fitment Restrictions
This pump does not fit every vehicle with one of the listed displacements. Confirm:
- VIN and engine code
- Gasoline versus diesel engine
- Pump casting and original part number
- Thermostat-housing configuration
- Heater-hose and radiator-hose connections
- Pulley and fan arrangement
- Production date on transition-year vehicles
It generally does not fit:
- 6.6L Duramax diesel engines
- 4.3L V6 engines
- Earlier 1999–2006 Gen III applications using AW5104/252-845
- Most 2014-and-newer EcoTec3 5.3L and 6.2L truck engines
- LT-series direct-injected V8 engines
- Belt-drive systems with a different pulley or pump offset
The 2007 model year included both GMT800 Classic and GMT900 trucks. Verify the body generation instead of assuming all 2007 Silverados share one pump. That would have been convenient, so naturally they do not.

Some online specifications incorrectly categorize this pump as timing-belt driven. These GM truck engines use an external serpentine belt to drive the water pump.

What Does the Water Pump Do?
The water pump circulates coolant through the engine block, cylinder heads, heater circuit and radiator. Its steel impeller must maintain enough flow to prevent localized hot spots and carry combustion heat away from the engine.
A pump can fail through:
- Mechanical-seal deterioration
- Bearing wear
- Shaft play
- Impeller corrosion
- Contaminated coolant
- Belt misalignment
- Excessive load from a damaged fan clutch

Common Water-Pump Failure Symptoms
- Coolant leaking from the pump or weep hole
- Dried coolant residue around the housing
- Grinding or growling noise
- Pulley or fan wobble
- Serpentine-belt misalignment
- Repeated coolant loss
- Overheating at idle or under load
- Weak cabin heat combined with overheating
- Cooling fans running without controlling temperature
Overheating alone does not prove the pump is defective. Low coolant, trapped air, a restricted radiator, failed thermostat or combustion leak can create similar symptoms.

Installation Recommendations
- Verify the OE number and engine application.
- Let the engine cool completely.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
- Drain the coolant into a suitable container.
- Remove the intake duct and fan shroud as required.
- Remove the mechanical fan and fan clutch where fitted.
- Release the serpentine belt.
- Disconnect the hoses from the pump.
- Clean the engine’s gasket surfaces carefully.
- Install the supplied gaskets in the correct orientation.
- Torque all fasteners to the proper GM specification.
- Inspect the belt, tensioner, idlers and fan clutch.
- Refill with the specified coolant.
- Bleed trapped air and inspect for leaks.
- Verify stable coolant temperature during a road test.
Do not reuse badly corroded bolts or bury the gaskets under excessive RTV. More sealant does not create more sealing; it creates orange debris looking for a radiator passage.
