Installation Notes

The temperature sender must be installed in a compatible coolant passage where it can contact circulating engine coolant. Depending on the application, this may be located in the:

• Cylinder head
• Intake manifold
• Thermostat housing
• Coolant outlet
• Engine block
• Radiator-hose adapter

Do not install the water-temperature sender on or against the exhaust system. Exhaust temperature is not coolant temperature, and exhaust components can damage the sensor harness.

For safe and accurate operation:

• Allow the engine to cool completely before opening the cooling system.
• Verify the sender thread size before installation.
• Use the correct adapter for the vehicle.
• Route wiring away from exhaust components, belts and cooling fans.
• Use cooling-system-compatible thread sealant when required.
• Avoid excessive sealant that could interfere with sender grounding.
• Bleed trapped air from the cooling system after installation.
• Inspect every opened connection for coolant leaks.
• Test the gauge before driving.

Install the sender in a compatible coolant passage or adapter where it remains in contact with circulating coolant. Never attach it to the exhaust system.

What should I do if the gauge reads above normal?

Reduce engine load and watch the temperature. If it continues rising, a warning light appears, coolant escapes or steam becomes visible, pull over safely and shut the engine off. Never remove the radiator cap while the cooling system is hot.
