MVR-Style Configuration
The compact housing is patterned after the 44mm TiAL MVR format. The genuine TiAL MVR replaced the earlier V44 and uses a dedicated compact V-band design. tialsport.com
This product is an aftermarket MVR-style wastegate and should not be described as a genuine TiAL component.
Before using it as a replacement, compare:
- Inlet and outlet flange diameters
- V-band groove shape
- Valve-seat dimensions
- Clamp width
- Installed height
- Pressure-port arrangement
- Coolant-port size
- Dump-pipe alignment
Three Wastegate Springs
The kit includes three separate spring choices:
| Spring | Approximate base boost |
|---|---|
| Low-pressure spring | 7 PSI |
| Preinstalled spring | 14 PSI |
| High-pressure spring | 17 PSI |
The spring establishes approximate mechanical base boost when the lower actuator port receives a direct pressure reference.
Actual boost can differ because of exhaust backpressure, manifold design, gate placement, turbo airflow, dump-pipe restriction and control-line routing. Garrett notes that published wastegate spring pressures are calculated using defined test conditions, including assumed boost-to-backpressure relationships. www.garrettmotion.com
Do not combine springs unless the manufacturer provides a chart approving the exact combination.
Water-Cooled Actuator Housing
Coolant ports allow engine coolant to circulate through the actuator housing. This can help maintain more consistent actuator temperatures in high-heat applications, particularly during road racing, endurance use or repeated high-load operation.
Comparable MVR and GenV wastegates use water cooling to lower actuator temperature under extreme conditions. support.turbosmart.com
Water cooling does not replace proper heat shielding or wastegate placement. Use correctly sized fittings, heat-resistant hose and a cooling-system routing plan appropriate for the engine.
Reinforced Diaphragm
The actuator uses an advertised pressure-reinforced, temperature-resistant diaphragm. This component separates the pressure chambers and moves the valve when boost pressure overcomes spring force.
Pressure-test the diaphragm before installation. A leaking actuator can produce slow response, unstable boost or uncontrolled pressure.
Safer Spring Changes
The actuator housing uses bolts instead of a single external retaining clamp. This lets the cap be loosened gradually while controlling spring preload.
The spring remains compressed inside the housing. Use a press or controlled clamping fixture and loosen fasteners evenly according to the supplied instructions. Do not simply remove every bolt and wait to discover the cap’s preferred flight path.
Boost-Control Compatibility
The wastegate can be configured with:
- Direct compressor-pressure reference
- Manual boost controller
- Electronic boost-control solenoid
- ECU-controlled boost management
A controller normally raises boost above the installed spring pressure. It generally cannot provide reliable boost below the spring’s mechanical base.
Read How to Install a Boost Controller the Right Way before plumbing the control ports.
Installation Requirements
Professional installation and tuning are recommended. A complete installation may require:
- Compatible 44mm V-band manifold flange
- Valve seat and V-band clamps
- Fabricated dump pipe
- Boost-reference hose
- Coolant fittings and hoses
- Boost controller or control solenoid
- Reliable boost gauge
- ECU calibration
- Heat shielding
Wastegate placement is just as important as valve size. A poorly angled manifold port can restrict bypass flow and cause boost creep even when the wastegate opens fully.
Installation Checklist
- Measure the inlet and outlet flanges.
- Confirm the installed spring.
- Pressure-test the diaphragm.
- Verify smooth valve travel.
- Install the valve seat correctly.
- Secure both V-band connections.
- Fabricate and support the dump pipe.
- Connect coolant lines if required.
- Route boost-control hoses away from heat.
- Begin with minimum boost-controller duty.
- Monitor the first test with a verified gauge or ECU log.
