Why Upgrade to Tein Street Basis Z Coilovers

  • The stock suspension on a 1990-2005 Miata was tuned for friendly, not feisty. Over time, wear takes its toll. The Street Basis Z gives you a refreshed chassis feel, tighter turn-in, and better body control.

  • Ride-height adjustability means you can dial the stance you want—planted in corners

  • Tein’s reputation for Japanese suspension engineering means you’re not just buying hype. Quality construction, twin-tube design, adjustable height, sealed unit.

After a bunch of research on different forums. I decided to give these a try, and I’m glad I did. My rear springs on my 94 miata were broken at the bottom, so I was in need of new suspension as soon as possible. This is my first set of coilovers, but I have helped install many others in the past.First impression out of the box: These coilovers look awesome and the build quality feels great. Only downside is that they don’t come with top hats, not a big deal as my old ones were still functional.Installation: This is my first set of coilovers for a miata that I had to partially assemble, it was super easy and the provided instructions were great and helped a ton. A file was even included to file away the notch in the top hat, I now have an extra file as well. It took about 4 hours to do these myself, I also put the front coilovers on the back like an idiot. Any semi-experienced person could do this in 3-5 hours. I also did not use an impact gun (you should NOT use an impact in any moving suspension components). The paint also withstands a good amount of abuse, It was knocked a few times by a wrench and didn’t even scuff. I set my bottom locknut 1 1/2 inches from the bottom collar as I didn’t want to bottom out in a pot hole (I live in michigan). Ride height is about 1/2 inch lower than stock but has a good amount to go if I wanted to slam it.First impression driving: Dang! They ride great, and have much better steering response! Feels similar to the stock shocks, but these feel better. I have owned these for about a month and they have been awesome!Final thoughts: For the price, these are absolutely awesome and a great upgrade. They ride great, look great and will last a long time. Great job Tein, I will be telling my fellow miata owners to buy these as well. I would recommend to a friend and buy again. If you have questions I can answer them. Pictures will come soon.

After doing lots of reading and some more reading on which setup is best to get rid of the ugly wheel gaps on my ’94, I decided to give these Teins a try. Getting lowering springs with good matching shocks were going to be too expensive for my budget. It was well packaged. Build quality looks excellent. Instructions were clear. Includes a small file to file the hole bigger in the stock top mounts, although I decided to drill it. It comes with some stickers as well.Installation was fairly easy. Lots of YouTube videos to show how to.The ride is not hard at all. A little less body roll, but still very comfortable for street use.One thing I noticed is it probably won’t go very low. It’s low enough for me, but if you want to it to be slammed you would probably want to use NB top mounts. I have set the springs on the lowest setting without it being loose and it’s about 310mm in front and 320mm at the rear.Overall very happy with these Teins.

It’s either bouncy or back breaking. No good if you care about ride quality.

You get what you pay for. They lowered the car to a reasonable height but are a bit bouncy. The rear is lowered as much as it can go & I still have some wheel gap.

Product does as advertised although a little squishy for everyday driving back roads. Packaged well, beautiful product. For price good deal, would buy same manufacturer but save a little and upgrade. Gave 5star due to good value

So far the seller has been SUPER helpful and currently I installed these coilovers on my gfs Miata and the rear seems to be making a clicking noise on both sides. Kinda a rattling, but we have a couple autocross events to hit and I’m hoping these hold together for the next couple weeks. So far I put everything on per spec and it’s doing alright other than the rattling noise. They do look cool tho!

Great buy, ride hight is perfect, easy install if you have or rent a spring compressor. Will need to file your top hats, took about half a day to install while drinking beers. Would buy again for a daily.

Coilovers worked great they slammed the car and is a little more bumpy then stock. It would be a great choice if you weren’t looking to get better handing but just wanted stance
