Why BMW N20 Engines NEED This Upgrade
Because the N20’s factory plastic valve cover ages like a loaf of bread left on a dashboard.
This aluminum upgrade solves:
-
Oil leaks from warped plastic
-
Cracking around PCV channels
-
Rough idle from vacuum leaks
-
Misfires from oil in spark plug tubes
-
Burning oil smells
-
PCV system failure (super common on N20)
-
Oil seepage onto exhaust or turbo housing
In short: if you have an N20, you will need this. It’s not “if,” it’s “when.”

I bought this and installed on my wife’s 2014 BMW X1. It fit well and looked and function much better than the original plastic one that cracked in several places. The part seem to hold up well. It has been over 3 years and over 30K miles and there does not appear to be any problems. The only issue that I had was that I could not use the supplied bolts as they were too short. I took a chance and reused the old aluminum ones and so far so good. Because of this, I purchased another one from the same maker for my daughter’s BMW X1 Xdrive35i (6cyl). That one seem to function well too. I needed to replaced her valve cover because of the leaking pcv valve which is a very common problem.

Have had this valve cover on for about 3 months now without any problems. It fit very well and install was a breeze. The gasket fit and formed well. The hardware that was provided is nice and also fit well,(very well coated so it won’t corrode easy). It definitely adds to the look of the engine with the bright silver coating. The coating is also very smooth but very tough and does not scratch easily. So far, so good! I was not sure how this was going to turn out as far as the fit due to an aftermarket aluminum part vs the factory composite part so I took a chance and tried it. I have used this brand of aluminum products on other vehicles such as oil filter housings and have not had any problems whatsoever so far. I would recommend using this brand as a replacement for the plastic valve covers and oil filter housings as aluminum does not crack easily, last longer,( if not forever) on vehicles. Aluminum is definitely the way to go rather than the composite,( plastic) components due to the way it withstands heat allot better than plastic. The trick is to find something that will fit like the factory part and last longer without spending a fortune. This in my opinion is it.

I’m giving it a 4 stars because the fitment is perfect and it is way better than the crack-prone plastic OEM cover – However, I started having a “fuel mixture Too Rich” code after installing this. Hard to say if the PCV system is causing it or not because I also replaced the turbo at the same time, but I did not have the issue beforehand and I have heard generic valve covers can cause it.So at the price point, I think it’s definitely worth a shot because fitment was great and the car runs with no leaks. It looks amazing too. But just remember you are taking a chance versus other name brands. If I can go back, I would try to run it before changing the turbo to see if it caused the too rich code.

DO NOT SPEND YOUR Money. This piece doesn’t not fit perfectly. It will fit into the same place, but the bolts are slightly different and the bolts won’t fit in and hold the other pieces that go in the front or back of the cover right (like the vacuum pump) just pay a bit extra for the OEM product.I wanted it to fit so bad and try it, and nope. It’s off by just a few few small millimeters here and millimeters there, and that can cause more leakage.

Much better than the plastic alternative!
Ordered the parts and took it to my mechanic to install. He mentioned this was better than any other plastic alternatives. Would order again but hoping it never comes to that.

Good
Good product and much cheaper than OEM. The oil cap was the first place to start leaking but it is very very minor.
