Although the item description doesn’t show compatibility with earlier Ford Focuses, this valve cover fit my 2003 Ford Focus 2.3L perfectly. The valve covers for the 2.3L Ford Focus are interchangeable between pre-2005 and 2005+ years but they have different designs, the main differences being aluminum for pre-2005 and plastic for 2005+, and a single piece spark plug hole gasket for pre-2005 and a three piece spark plug hole gasket for 2005+. All bolt locations stayed the same. I had problems torquing the valve bolts on my pre-2005 aluminum valve cover. The bolt holes cracked and allowed oil into the spark plug holes and to the top of the valve cover. I could not find any new valve covers with the pre-2005 design but I discovered that the valve covers for the 2005+ were swappable with pre-2005. Installation was plug-and-play and the placement of the bolts for this new valve cover is easily identified by the raised and lowered holes on the valve cover. The thickness of the bolt holes should prevent hole breakage compared to my previous valve cover.

Fit like a charm looks good. Functions good. Easy to install. But watch out one thing I noticed is that it had some aluminum shaving in the crease for the seal something that shouldn’t come out of a factory like that but it did.

Looks Great – Minor Gripes
Feels a lot more solid that the original one. I always hated that the spark plugs screwed into grommits embedded in the plastic. This one has holes milled right into the cover, it’s 1 piece.Gripes:- The inlet at the bottom right of my pic, it was just a hair too big. I had to wrench the connector on and I fear the day it has to come off- Most of the bolts fit but I had to re-use a couple just to get the right combination of posts for the cable ties.- I bought a Felpro gasket to use instead of the provided gasket and it fit very poorly in this valve cover. I’m saddened that I may have to pull the whole thing apart to put the gasket that came with it in. Time will tell. But if that’s the case that’s $40 wasted. So just an FYI it’s not going to fit an OEM fitment gasket perfectly (I really hope that isn’t a problem and will return to this to downgrade it if it ends up being that. Because where am I going to get another one of THESE gaskets), and don’t get rid of any bolts. Maybe even hang onto the ones you don’t use. Ford has discontinued this car.
