Stock alternator was on the fritz. After 23 years, the OEM alternator had decided it was time to fail. It’s was still putting out power, but would trigger a weird p1381 engine code. According to the internet, if it’s not the distributor it must be the alternator.Checking my big box parts store, they quoted me $250 for a reman. Vehicle is worth close to $1000 so a quarter of the vehicle’s worth for an alternator? I thinks not.Used the internet once again for wisdom… And to save a buck. Found thuis guy and decided it was worth a shot. Even if it only lasts half the time of the OEM alternator it’s replacing, the car would probably succumb to rust before that time is reached. Heck, even if it only lasts a quarter of the time, I’ll still get close to 6 years out of it. My son’s will be driving by then and they can inherit the headache.Part installed flawlessly. Was a direct fit and had it going after 20 minutes. My p1381 vanished and my car is back to being happy. Time will tell if this is a quality piece but for the price, I’ll take that gamble.

I was seeing intermittent flashing of dash lights (including Battery Light) and occasionally it wouldn’t shift out of 1st gear (automatic). Once it died on me. I took old alternator to auto store. They tested it and it passed. Installed this alternator 6 weeks ago, cured all the issues. The original worked for 278000 miles, so it’s probably fair to have to swap it out.

Seems of good to great quality. 1/3 price of OEM. Relatively easy to install on my 98 Odyssey. Runs like new, no problems. I know there are not many of these first gen Odysseys around, but I LOVE this vehicle! Replaced the OEM after 23 years! If this one lasts 5 years or more, I’ll be happy.
