Why Upgrade to ARP Head Studs?
Because your head gasket deserves better than “hopefully it holds.”
Unlike traditional bolts, head studs provide more even and consistent clamping force, reducing the chances of head lift under boost, high compression, or aggressive driving.
(Vtec, B18C) Built for the Acura Integra… Obtaining the optimum cylinder head-to-block sealing is especially critical in small displacement engines employing high compression pistons or power adders like turbochargers, nitrous oxide and superchargers.

That’s why ARP head studs are popular among leading Sport Compact/Import racers. You will have to know that ARP uses a premium grade 8740 alloy that may be rated far superior to “aircraft” quality. Then, every stud is precisely heat-treated to 200,000 psi. Following heattreat, every stud is centerless ground to make it as close to perfectly concentric as conceivable.
Ideal Applications
- Performance and high-horsepower builds
- Turbocharged and supercharged engines
- High-compression setups
- Engine rebuilds where reliability actually matters
If you’re making power, this isn’t optional.
This procedure involves about ten very slight cuts and ends up in an exceptionally straight part. It’s a must to note that lesser quality studs aren’t even centerless ground the material is thread rolled in bar stock form (mostly before heat-treat, when the material is easier to machine). Because ARP studs are manufactured to such exacting tolerances,
Why It Matters
Stock head bolts can lead to:
- Head lift under boost
- Blown head gaskets
- Inconsistent clamping force
The ARP 208-4303 kit ensures secure sealing, consistent torque retention, and long-term durability, keeping your engine together when it matters most.
You’re going to note that gaskets and cylinder heads literally go with the flow into position and are perfectly aligned something that would possibly not happen with inferior quality head studs.ARP studs are thread rolled after heat-treat, which gives them about 1000% (that’s ten times) better fatigue strength than those studs that are threaded prior to heat-treat.You’re going to also note that ARP offers specially undercut studs for several engines.
Installation Notes
- Use ARP Ultra-Torque lubricant for accurate clamping
- Follow ARP torque specs exactly
- Install studs finger-tight into the block before torquing
Translation: this is not the part you “just send.”
This procedure (done only to the shorter studs) more equalizes the “stretch” of both studs, which makes for a more consistent clamping force one that compensates for head gasket compression when the head is installed. This helps prevent blown head gaskets, and assures optimum sealing!
