What This Fuel Pump Does (and Why It Fails)
Your factory fuel pump is responsible for delivering fuel from the tank to the injectors at a consistent operating pressure, ensuring correct air-fuel ratios across idle, cruising, and wide-open throttle. Over time, internal pump motors wear out, pressure regulators weaken, and strainers clog with debris.
Common symptoms of a failing fuel pump include:
-
Hard starts or extended crank times
-
Loss of power under acceleration or towing
-
Lean conditions and engine hesitation
-
Random stalling, especially when hot
-
Inaccurate fuel gauge readings (thanks, bad sending unit)
The E3549M module replaces both the pump and fuel level sending unit, solving pressure issues and gauge inaccuracies in one shot.
Performance & Reliability Benefits
While this isn’t a race pump, restoring OEM-correct fuel pressure and flow volume is critical for proper engine performance. A weak pump can cause lean running conditions, which increase combustion temperatures and risk long-term engine damage—especially on the 4.2L Atlas inline-six and the 5.3L V8 when towing or hauling.
Benefits of replacing your fuel pump:
-
Restores factory fuel pressure specs
-
Improves throttle response and drivability
-
Ensures proper injector atomization
-
Prevents lean misfires and detonation
-
Stabilizes fuel delivery under load
Bottom line: your engine can’t make power if it’s being starved.

02 trailblazer 4.2l had trouble starting sometimes and was throwing a code for a vacuum leak or something I think it was p0174. It wouldn’t want to start some days and it seemed if I turned the key off and on a few times it would help. since that would make the pump kick on several times. Anyways I suspected it was the pump for this reason and it was. I no longer have an issue or a check engine light.

The fuel pump assembly looked exactly like the OEM fuel pump assembly, and the new wire harness plug was easy to install and fit great on the new fuel pump assembly. I’m giving it 5 stars for the price and ease of installment. I just installed it a few days ago and i haven’t tuned up the Trailblazer so i can’t rate the mileage but it’s looking good. Overall a good buy. Sept 2022EditSept 2025Fuel pump still going strong. Well worth the purchase.Update: Over 3 years now and the fuel pump is still going strong

I don’t think i get as much pressure as i should from the OEM, but it fits and my truck is running for now. It’s been a few months now and we’re still good. If it fails I’ll come back and update my review. So far a good value for the money.

I chose this fuel pump/sending unit because it hadn’t had any reviews particularly negative ones to take more time reviewing others. It took 4 days or less to arrive. Installed on a weekend which it took me the full time to finish. But it was me only, on gravel, a jack, jack stands and the necessary tools to complete the work. Installation went good and after 3 to 4 weeks now it is still working. I must say for it not being an OEM parts I’m surprised. Plus it saved money I didn’t have to spend.
