Why Monroe Gas-Magnum Is Different

Standard shocks fade fast under constant payload and towing stress. Monroe Gas-Magnum shocks are engineered for vehicles that operate at or near GVWR on a regular basis.

Gas-Magnum design highlights:

  • Larger bore for increased damping force

  • Heavy-duty gas-charged design

  • Tuned for high payload and towing stability

  • Reduced brake dive and rear squat

Translation: better control when the van is actually loaded.

Safety & Suspension Health

Worn shocks on a heavy van dramatically increase stopping distance and reduce stability—especially in emergency maneuvers. Fresh Gas-Magnum shocks restore predictable handling and reduce stress on suspension and steering components.

This is safety-critical maintenance, not optional comfort.

Designed for midsize and full-size trucks and vans, Monroe® Gas-Magnum® shock absorbers provide firm control without a harsh ride. With up to twice the fluid capacity of standard 1-in. bore shocks, they work more efficiently with less effort.

Monroe Gas Magnum Shock Absorber Module 4

Hardworking midsize, full-size trucks and vans can count on Monroe Gas-Magnum shocks to carry the load. Not just for ride comfort, shocks are necessary for the safe handling of your vehicle. By maintaining vertical loads placed up on the tires, shocks help ensure consistent tire-to-road contact. Shocks also help maintain a balanced ride by providing resistance to vehicle bounce, roll and sway as well as brake dive and acceleration squat.

CAUSES & CONSEQUENCES OF SHOCK FAILURE

Like many parts on your vehicle, shocks are subject to wear. Causes include damaged bushings, exposure to the elements, loss of oil viscosity and deteriorated components. Driving with worn shocks can result in problems ranging from reduced braking efficiency, tire wear, loss of stability and damage to other suspension parts.

DIAGNOSING NOISE WITH NEW SHOCKS

If noise is present with a replacement shock absorber, check that the mount is tightened securely and look for other worn suspension parts. Some shock absorbers utilize a “clevis” type mount, which must squeeze the sides of the shock’s “mounting sleeve” very securely in order to prevent noise. Using new hardware and mounting bolts help ensure its tightened securely. Check the brackets to make sure they didn’t get spread apart excessively when the original shock was removed.

IMPORTANCE OF ALIGNMENT

Always perform an alignment whenever replacement shocks, struts or other ride control parts are installed. Camber, toe and caster settings can all be affected by installing new shocks. Failure to make sure the vehicle’s alignment is within factory specifications can lead to problems like premature tire wear.

HOW TO CONDUCT A SHOCK INSPECTION

Shocks may not show any visible signs of wear, make sure to request a ride control inspection every time your vehicle is brought in for service to ensure they’re in optimal operating condition. When inspecting a vehicle’s shocks: assess how the vehicle is used and perform ride and physical evaluations. Get an understanding of the vehicle’s repair history, the way the vehicle handles and its intended use for clues if the shocks might need changing. Next, take the vehicle for a test drive to determine whether the vehicle’s steering, stopping and stability are compromised. Wrap up the inspection with a physical examination for symptoms of wear which may indicate new shocks are required.

Why Buy Monroe Gas-Magnum from Pro Street Online

At Pro Street Online, we don’t sell passenger-car parts for work vehicles. The Monroe Gas-Magnum 34761 is the correct shock for E-350 owners who need load control, durability, and reliability, not soft ride marketing.

Old shocks were long dead. Put these on a 2003 Ford E350 Super Duty 1 ton van. The change in the ride was amazing! It was like driving a new rig instead of an 23 years old 1 ton.Installation was a bit challenging, simply because the Ford engineers never had to work on their own designs. Once I figured out how to reach things, installation was a snap (ish).

1/2 the price than auto parts store. Good up grade on adventure van. Installing was easy enough, there shocks not hard just a pain. Took sawall and cut upper attachments.Riding smoothly now , hit plenty of pot holes to test them.

They do the job. But I will say this. My 2000 E350 the best way to get the old rear shock off if it’s just the shaft. Take a grinder and make 2 flat spots on the shaft so you can lock some vice grips on it so you can spin the top nut off with a flex wratchet wrench.

So when I initially installed the shocks on my van they were absolutely amazing. About 60 to 90 days after installation these shocks turned right back in to the shocks I had previously. It felt exactly the same and road the same as before and that’s why I changed them in the first place. I feel every bump every crack in the road and if I’m hauling something forget about it. In less than 6 months I’m going to have to purchase another set of shocks for both my front and back and install them. What a bunch of garbage! Thanks Monroe
