Why Alternator Health Matters on GM Trucks
Once the engine is running, the alternator becomes the primary electrical power source for:
-
Engine management and ignition
-
Fuel delivery systems
-
Power steering and braking electronics
-
Headlights, work lights, and interior lighting
-
HVAC, infotainment, and towing accessories
-
Charging and maintaining the battery
When alternator output drops, the battery gets forced to carry the load—briefly—and then fails early. Symptoms usually include:
-
Repeated dead batteries
-
Flickering or dim headlights
-
Charging system warnings
-
Random electrical glitches
Replacing the alternator fixes the root cause, not the symptoms.

1st one ordered was defective. 2nd one that replaced the original has a hum to it but otherwise works as intended. It’s only been in the vehicle for 2.5 weeks overall.

easy to install, just looked at you tube video and had to undo the tension belt and two bolts and viola it was that easy.
