The old filter installed by the previous owner was cheap and flimsy. There was a clear difference in build and material quality. More rigid and thicker material. I ordered this cabin air filter to replace the one in my 09 Honda CRV that was extremely dirty. It was a perfect fit and appears to be of better quality than the OEM I replaced. It has charcoal embedded in the filter but it does not have a smell. Installation was very easy once I determine through online resources where the filter is located. There was definitely a significant increase in airflow once this was replaced.

If I can install cabin air filter, you can definitely do it too. Dont go to the car shop and pay extra to install something so easy like this one. You can just Google and find a YouTube video specific to your car model, and swap it out. I have honda civic 2015 model and this was a perfect fit! Save some bucks by installing this yourself.
