Performance Benefits
-
Sharper throttle response thanks to reduced airflow restriction.
-
Better mid-range and top-end engine feel on the 2.0 L.
-
Improved intake tone—engine sounds more alive.
-
High quality build and re-usable filter means long-term value.
The AEM 21-792C performance cold air intake system produces horsepower and torque gains by replacing your vehicle’s restrictive factory air filter and air intake housing. This air intake system was designed, tuned and dyno-tested to fit specific Honda Civic models. Air enters the system through an oversized AEM Dryflow synthetic washable air filter for outstanding air flow, filtration and performance.
Installation Notes
-
Installation time: ~60 minutes with standard hand tools.
-
Confirm vehicle has the 2.0 L naturally aspirated engine (NOT the 1.5 Turbo or Type R engine) before purchasing.
-
After installation, check fitment clearance, hose routing, and filter seating.
-
Thanks to its CARB approval (EO D-670-26) it’s legal for street use in most jurisdictions—still verify local regulations.
The air filter is placed into the original air box space and is protected by a heat shield which is designed to reduce intake air temperature and increase horsepower. The air intake tube is constructed from mandrel-bent aluminum featuring a durable gunmetal gray powder coated finish. This air intake system was developed to accommodate the engine’s factory emissions control devices including the mass air flow sensor and engine vent line.
Final Verdict
For anyone driving a 2016–2021 Honda Civic 2.0 L, the AEM 21-792C is a high-quality cold air intake upgrade: solid engineering, measurable performance improvement, and full emissions compliance. It’s the kind of bolt-on that enhances the driving experience without overcomplication.
The tapered cylinder shaped AEM Dryflow air filter is made from an oil-free, synthetic filter media that can be used for up to 100,000 miles before cleaning is needed (depending on driving conditions). the air intake system is easy to install with commonly available tools and it is backed by AEM’s lifetime limited warranty. Some AEM air intakes are not legal for sale or use in California and other States adopting California emission standards, while others are 50 state legal. Bought just yesterday & installed today. Love this product for my Honda-Ex so far. Sounds amazing. Took about an hour to install properly. Definitely would recommend.

Took some time as I thought, it feels solid, sounds really good, time will tell the gains but I love it so far, also, keep in mind you may need to buy a larger hose clamp since one of the clamps did not fit over the filter inlet,*edit 9/19/23Removed the SRI since I saw my mpg go down from mid 30s to mid 20s, but it is not really AEM’s doing, just the matter of modifying the flow of air, for now, I will be putting my factory air box back in and putting a DryFlow drop in filter in, only knocks a star off, don’t let it steer you away, it’s a good intake,Little thing I noticed, it’s only really loud when I put my car in sport mode, in drive it’s only a bit louder than stock, I like that though, makes it easier to be quiet when I want to,All in all, great filter kit, would recommend,I feel as if the dry flow filter will prove to be more reliable than the oiled filters,

Car: 2017 Honda CivicEngine: 2.0L K20C2TL;DR: Great quality product, have used it for over a year and installation was straightforward; Affordable upgrade for better driveability and sound, minimal HP gains, maintains fuel efficiency, and is a durable CAI with no issues; CARB legal in California (EO: D-670-26) but not shippable via Amazon.Installation:I purchased and installed the AEM 21-792C Cold Air Intake in April 2023. The installation process was pretty straightforward as the kit came with an instructions manual. The main difficulty was removing the factory airbox as some of the screws were stripped and had to be taken out with other methods, especially with the MAF sensor. I had to do a transmission fluid change at the same time, so it was rather convenient. The AEM CAI is a tight fit, but I didn’t have any major difficulties in installing it. It took around 1.5 hours to fully complete the installation.Performance:Do not expect huge horsepower gains as most CAIs have very marginal improvements to overall HP. According to AEM, there is an increase of ~5-7 HP, which equates to about a 3.1%-4.4% gain in power. You will notice a slight increase in throttle response, which does make the car feel more responsive. Another benefit is the deeper intake noise and the enhanced sound, which might be worth it if you want a more aggressive sound.Durability:After 1 year of use, I’ve inspected the CAI consistently and can confirm that the parts are of great quality. Besides minimal wear and tear, there are no issues or damaged areas and the CAI has held up very well. The only addition I made was installing the Air Filter Wrap, which protects the exposed filter from water and larger particles. Not entirely necessary, but it gives me some ease of mind. There is a limited lifetime warranty, so do keep that in mind.Value and Worth:The CAI is a relatively affordable modification compared to other aftermarket modifications for the car. If you appreciate the auditory and visual enhancement, then you might consider the investment to be worthwhile. The HP gains are minimal, but there are noticeable improvements in driveability and engagement. My MPG has not changed much as I still get ~28-30 MPG (city & highway combined), but that heavily depends on your driving style. I would not purchase this if your car still has a warranty, as it will void it, so be sure to consider your options.Final Thoughts:I thoroughly enjoy the AEM CAI, and definitely felt it was worth it for me. CAIs are not meant to drastically increase performance, especially with a naturally aspirated engine like ours. But, it is a great entry-level upgrade that offers improvements to my driving experience and a chance to learn more about the vehicle. This is more like a “future-proofing” modification, especially if you are interested in adding additional aftermarket parts. Honestly, if you just want a little more sound without the hassle, just get a drop-in filter the next time you have to change your air filter (which is considerably more affordable). Otherwise, the AEM CAI is a great option if the price is right and you feel like it’s worth the upgrade.**Note for California Buyers:The AEM CAI is CARB legal in California, the EO number is: D-670-26. Be sure to install the CARB EO sticker onto your CAI in order to pass your smog inspections. As for shipping, Amazon does not ship CAIs to California due to the CARB restrictions. I spoke to both an AEM and an Amazon Representative, who confirmed that the CAI is CARB legal, but the seller (Amazon) restricts shipping due to legal complications – even if it is CARB legal. You can either: 1) Purchase directly from the AEM website or 2) Have the CAI delivered to another valid shipping address and have it delivered to you. You might consider these options depending on the price point or discounts.

For my 2016 honda civic lx manual this was a great investment. Sound great and you can feel the little extra horse power.

Worked perfect for my 2017 Honda Civic Ex. Made the engine sound like a growl and a tiny bit better throttle response. Very good for something you just bolt on!!

Really make your car sound more aggressive. Highly recommend

Bought for my moms 2016 civic ex non turbo. Fits well I installed in less than an hour with hand tools. Instructions get you through the process. She drives like a granny and has noticed the “average mpg” on her dash go up 2-3 mpg. It’ll pay for itself over time.4 stars bec I can’t compare it to other brands. The sound only changes when you push the gas to the floor and I guess it’s better. But still sounds like a weak 4 cyl. The turbo models and si models benefit way more off of an intake (sound wise)

Excelente filtro
100% recomendable.
