Complete Six-Cylinder Ignition Service
The package includes:
- Six UF553-style ignition coils
- Six iridium spark plugs
- Two-pin coil connectors
- Bolt-on coil-on-plug construction
- Components for all six cylinders
Replacing the complete set creates consistent ignition performance across the engine instead of mixing new parts with coils and plugs that already have years of heat cycles behind them.
Built for Naturally Aspirated Ford V6 Engines
The UF553-style coils are designed to produce the voltage required to fire each spark plug under normal engine operating conditions. Their insulated housings help protect the internal windings from heat, moisture and vibration.
Symptoms of a weak ignition coil can include:
- Rough idle
- Difficult starting
- Hesitation during acceleration
- Reduced engine power
- Increased fuel consumption
- Engine shaking
- Check-engine warning
- Random or cylinder-specific misfires
Read Pro Street’s guide to bad ignition-coil symptoms before replacing parts without diagnosis.
Iridium Spark Plugs
The included iridium plugs use fine-wire center electrodes designed to concentrate spark energy while resisting electrical and thermal wear.
Replacing worn plugs may help restore:
- Reliable cold starting
- Smooth idle quality
- Consistent acceleration
- Stable combustion
- Original engine response
- Fuel economy lost to worn ignition components
For more information, see Pro Street’s guide on how to choose spark plugs.
Specifications
| Specification | Details |
|---|---|
| Number of coils | 6 |
| Number of spark plugs | 6 |
| Coil terminals | 2 pins |
| Coil configuration | Coil-on-plug |
| Spark-plug thread | 14 mm |
| Spark-plug hex | 16 mm / 5/8 inch |
| Listed heat range | 6 |
| Listed preset gap | 0.044 inch |
| Engine compatibility | Naturally aspirated 3.5L and 3.7L V6 |
Spark-Plug Gap Notice
The plugs are advertised with a preset 0.044-inch gap, but that specification must be verified for the exact vehicle, engine and plug number before installation.
Do not assume every 3.5L and 3.7L application uses an identical plug specification. Check the appropriate Ford owner’s manual or current manufacturer service information.
Measure every plug before installation without placing pressure against the iridium center electrode. “Pre-gapped” should mean verified, not blindly trusted like a marketplace compatibility chart at 2 a.m.
Symptoms This Kit May Address
This kit may correct problems caused by weak coils or worn plugs, including:
- P0300 random or multiple-cylinder misfire
- P0301 through P0306 cylinder-specific misfires
- Rough cold starts
- Unstable idle
- Hesitation under load
- Intermittent loss of power
- Increased fuel consumption
- Failed emissions testing caused by ignition misfires
Ignition components are not the only possible causes. Misfires may also result from injectors, vacuum leaks, wiring faults, timing problems or low compression. Consult Pro Street’s engine-misfire diagnostic guide before declaring every coil guilty.
Installation Notes
Install the coils and plugs when the engine is completely cool.
- Confirm the engine is naturally aspirated.
- Compare the original two-pin coil connector.
- Remove the engine cover and intake components as required.
- Disconnect the coil electrical connectors.
- Remove the retaining bolts and ignition coils.
- Clear debris from the spark-plug wells.
- Inspect for oil, coolant or water intrusion.
- Verify the replacement plug number and gap.
- Start each plug by hand to prevent cross-threading.
- Tighten the plugs to the manufacturer’s specification.
- Reinstall the coils and electrical connectors.
- Clear fault codes and verify operation.
Some transverse applications may require removal of the upper intake manifold to reach the rear cylinder bank. Replace disturbed intake seals as required and follow the manufacturer’s tightening sequence.
Why Replace Coils and Plugs Together?
As spark plugs wear, their gaps can increase and demand more voltage from the ignition coils. That additional demand can expose weak insulation or aging internal windings.
Replacing both components provides:
- Consistent ignition parts across six cylinders
- Reduced risk of repeat repairs
- Fewer mismatched old and new components
- A reliable baseline for misfire diagnosis
- More consistent engine performance
This kit restores worn ignition components. It should not be advertised as a guaranteed horsepower upgrade or miracle fuel saver—because functioning normally is not technically a performance modification.
