Spotted: 2020 Porsche Panamera – One Last Hurrah?

Spotted in Germany and without any camouflage typical of prototypes, the 2020 Porsche Panamera looks markedly upgraded for the new year. What seems on the surface to be minor cosmetic changes seems to confirm the platform’s demise in 2022 as rumored. Reports have not been confirmed, but should the 2020 Panamera be the last design, it’s not all bad news.

Porsche’s Panamera has done relatively well in the four-door luxury coupe segment. Against stiff competition such as the AMG GT or BMW’s 8 Series Gran Coupe, however, it appears as though Porsche could consider a purely electric approach.

Is the 2020 Porsche Panamera the last one?

The redesigned Panamera is a highly modified version of the four-door GT. According to Porsche engineers, extensive research and development led 820 horsepower. If true, this combination of performance and practicality wrapped in a luxury sedan form factor.

The Panamera was already an incredible machine, a proverbial wolf in sheep’s clothing. With the high-performance practicality on hand, the all-new Porsche Taycan sedan looks to build upon this very concept.

Should the rumor that this version is the last, Porsche is clear to send the Panamera out on a high note. Electric powertrain options could lean on the same 48-volt electric technology found in the 2020 Audi S7.

Both the 4S Porsche and the S models look to retain the same turbocharged 2.9 liter V6. This is the same engine that powered the Porsche from 0-60 in just 3.6 seconds. Impressive as that sounded, the previous generation Panamera GTS came with a 453 horsepower twin-turbo V8.

That makes the concept of the new Porsche all that more enticing. The top of the line 2020 Porsche Panamera should surprise, given the 820 high mark.
